History Of Candles
Executive Summary about Candle Manufacturer by SethB
Wicked candles have been around for thousands of years.
Tallow based candles would have had an awful smell and given off smokey fumes. Beeswax candles have a sweeter scent and don’t have the noxious fumes. It was produced very cheaply from coal and gave good quality consistant candles.
Candles became decorative items. Natural wax scented candles are now readily available.
In the UK natural wax candles that use natural scents from essential oils have gradually started to become available since 2002. Many candles that are sold as natural mention only natural wax. Some manufacturers like I Conjure Candles use a small percentage of beeswax with the soy wax to create a wax blend that enhances the natural essential oil scents. Later, there were 24-hour candles. The Sung dynasty in China (960 - 1279) also used candle-clocks.
Tallow, fat from cows or sheep, became the standard material used in candles in Europe. By 1415 tallow candles were used in street lighting. The unpleasant smell of tallow candles is due to the glycerine in it. The first candle mould comes from 15th century Paris.
New types of oil
From about 1750 it was used to provide very expensive candles. It yields colza oil. This was the best candle yet, producing clear smokeless flames. In 1834 Joseph Morgan began to industrialize the production of candles.
